Storytelling Program to promote Girl Education, and Gender Equality.
World Environment Day is celebrated annually (every year) on June 5th and was created to inspire people around the globe to become active about the environment and learn more about ways they can help to ensure the future of our planet is safe.
Sahegaami celebrated this day with Shanti Gyaan Seva Trust, in Jharoda village. The objective was to bring environmental issues to the attention of community (children, parents, schools), to try to get everyone helps in making a difference. Participants were told about cleanliness, hygiene (as it’s a major problem in the community), water crisis and ways to conserve water at the individual level, pollution, and waste management. Conducted workshop with the children to teach them the easy ways of recycling waste paper and plastic bottles.
Environment day is not a public holiday neither one need a specific day to think and act for the environment we need to change our habits that are causing our planet. Shanti Gyan Seva trust shows their commitment to continue awareness drives on environmental issues, health and hygiene in the local community to change people habits and choices that are causing environment and health.
MyArtClub our weekly art and craft session was an important fun and learning activity to those were involved. There were over 30 children attaining the class from Karkardooma Village.
Project objectives and outputs:
• Provide a safe, fun environment where all local children aged 4-14 were welcomed.
• Provide Art and craft skills.
• Used art to aware children on environmental issues, social issues, and cultural diversity.
• Encourage children to take part in physical activity and develop healthy habits and lifestyles.
• Educate children and their parents on gender equality, cleanses, and other social issues.
• Provide particular support for families whose children struggle with school, or have difficulty making government ids.
Burari (Jharoda Majra 2) the slum here is accommodating a quite large population, a shanty town tenting majorly rag pickers, labour, and domestic workers. The population consists of 100 children aged between 1 month to 14 years. The families are mostly deprived, poor surviving with low literacy rate and lack of sanitation.
SAHGAAMI- A Drive for Social Reform, started working on environment protection with a theme of “GREEN INDIA, CLEAN INDIA”. About 100 plants were adopted from WWF for the Tree Plantation Drive and all the plants were planted at different locations of Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, and Karkardooma village. The purpose of the drive is to create awareness among the common people to plant more and more trees around their community. The drive was started from Laxmi Nagar with the support and participation of almost 30 community people and ended at karkardooma village with a note of thanks to all the participants.
On 2nd October 2017, Sahgaami Ngo organized an awareness programme on the occasion of Swachch Bharat Abhiyan within the theme of “GREEN INDIA, CLEAN INDIA”. As the Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan was started by Prime Minister in 2014 on the day of the birth anniversary of Gandhi Ji. The awareness initiative was taken to create cleanliness habits among children in those areas where lack of cleanliness is a big issue of concern like in Karkardooma Village of Delhi.
Diwali is the festival celebrated in India by lighting Diya, candles and by distributing sweets from one door to another. Sahgaami Ngo celebrated Diwali with the slum children by conducting Diya painting competition and prize distribution for the best diya painting.
